Last week, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) awarded funding to 11 organizations to provide training and education on the Quality Payment Program (QPP) to clinicians in individual or small group practices participating in Medicare, especially those serving under-resourced and medically underserved areas. These organizations will provide personalized technical assistance and support to help small practices be successful as they transition to this new payment model.
The Quality Payment Program (QPP) was established by the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA), and replaces the Sustainable Growth Rate formula as the way Medicare payment rates for clinicians are determined. Participating clinicians can choose to participate in either Advanced Alternative Payment Models (APMs), including the Oncology Care Model, or the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS).
This funding award is the latest in a series of outreach efforts by CMS related to the QPP. Webinars and informational videos on the QPP are available online here. Clinicians may also contact the QPP by calling 1-866-288-8292 from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. CST or emailing [email protected].
