2016 Wisconsin Survivorship Forum

Over 100 Participants attended the 2016 Wisconsin Survivorship Forum “Life in the Balance”. This year’s Forum was held at the Florian Gardens in Eau Claire, WI, and was hosted by three major Eau Claire area healthcare systems; Marshfield Clinic, Mayo Clinic Health System and HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital.

This was the fifth state-wide Survivorship Forum, a part of the outreach efforts of the WI Comprehensive Cancer Control Program. The Forum was designed to bring heath care providers, advocates, survivors and their loved ones to the same event to learn, network and share perspectives about their cancer experiences.

The 2016 Survivorship Forum featured comedian, juggler and cancer survivor, Scott Burton. He entertained, challenged, and encouraged attendees to dare to laugh, and to find their passion for life in the midst of living with cancer.

Breakout session topics included Mindfulness, Cancer and Employment, Sexual Health and Caring for the Caregiver. When asked to identify one take-home message from the Forum, participants noted: “Don’t live in fear, just live”!
