IARC States Processed Meat Can Cause Cancer
International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the cancer agency of the World Health Organization (WHO), released a warning that eating processed meats, like hot dogs, sausages or bacon, can increase you risk for cancer. The IARC classified processed meat as carcinogenic to humans (similar to tobacco) and red meat as probably carcinogenic to humans. The findings support recommendations to limit intake of meat.
Study Looks at Employment and Income Impact Following Cancer Diagnosis
A study published in Cancer this month looked at 17,000 men and women between 1999 and 2009, 1,100 had been diagnosed with cancer. The study looked at employment, hours work, individual income, and total family income. Every area was significantly impacted. The study calls for “examining the long-term implication for economic well-being and ways to mitigate the economic hardship associated with cancer.”
