Wider Racial Gap Found in Cervical Cancer Deaths
According to a study published in Cancer, the death rate from cervical cancer in the United States is considerably higher than previously estimated. Further, the disparity in death rates between black women and white women is significantly wider. The study suggests that black American women are dying from cervical cancer at a rate comparable to that of women in many poor developing nations. Increasing utilization of cervical cancer screening can improve outcomes and proper administration of the HPV vaccine can prevent most cases.
