Cancer Accreditation Programs: Continually Advancing Quality Cancer Care

The American College of Surgeons (ACS) Cancer Accreditation Programs: Continually Advancing Quality Cancer Care conference is designed to enhance cancer program operations by examining requirements and compliance strategies for the Commission on Cancer (CoC) Optimal Resources for Cancer Care (2020 Standards) and the National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC) Optimal Resources for Rectal Cancer Care, along with sharing peer-to-peer best practices content to build and enhance program activity and demonstrate high-quality care. A key component of the content is a preview of the new National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) standards found in Optimal Resources for Breast Care, which will be released in 2022.

- Quality improvement activities affecting patients with cancer
- Information on the Rapid Cancer Reporting System (RCRS) and the plan for deployment of new CoC quality measures to support the delivery of high-quality care
- Development, release, and implementation of surgical standards and synoptic operative reports to improve the quality of surgical care
- Review of challenging American Joint Committee on Cancer staging case studies
- Future changes anticipated to the STandards for Oncology Registry Entry (STORE) Manual
- Information on the current site visit processes, best practices for preparation using the Pre-Review Questionnaire, and the new accreditation portal
- Successful site visit experiences to facilitate a successful accreditation outcome.
At the conclusion of the conference, participants will be able to:
- Describe the key changes to accreditation standards and cite best practices used to overcome challenges affecting cancer program operations and patient care delivery.
- Employ the RCRS to monitor cancer patient care in real time and identify new quality measures in development and planned cancer registry coding changes.
- Apply new knowledge of the site visit process, accreditation portal, and best practices for preparation for the site visit.
