NCCN PHARMACY UPDATES: PALLIATIVE CARE FOR PATIENTS WITH CANCER

Palliative care is an important part of the care of patients with cancer. Pharmacologic interventions for symptom management play an integral role in palliative care. Pharmacists can play a critical role in patient education, therapy recommendations, and therapy management in palliative care and should be familiar with appropriate pharmacologic interventions for symptom management.

TARGET AUDIENCE

This educational program is designed to meet the educational needs of pharmacists, physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and other health care professionals who manage patients with cancer.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Following this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Summarize the clinical benefits of early palliative care intervention
  • Choose appropriate therapy recommendations to treatment symptoms associated with cancer and cancer therapies
  • Apply best practices for recommending referral to other providers as appropriate
