About Dr. Geoffrey Swain:
Dr. Swain is a board-certified Family Physician with extensive clinical, teaching, health policy, and public health leadership and practice experience, including as academic medical faculty since 1990, and providing medical direction at the City of Milwaukee Health Department from 1993-2018.
His expertise is in social and economic determinants of health, and reducing health inequities through upstream, population-level, policy and programmatic interventions.
As the Founding Director of the Wisconsin Center for Health Equity, he helped lead two focus areas of Wisconsin’s 2020 State Health Plan: Health Disparities; and Social, Economic, & Educational Factors. He has broad experience with local, statewide, regional and national groups addressing health equity and social determinants of health.
Dr. Swain has helped lead several grant-funded projects, including a completed 4-year project addressing socioeconomic and other barriers to fatherhood involvement, and two ongoing 5-year initiatives examining the effects of criminal justice policies, and of housing policies, on health.
