School Wellness Learning Collaborative
The WI Comprehensive Cancer Control Program has been working with partners across the state, including the American Cancer Society, the WI Department of Public Instruction and the WI Department of Health Services to help schools create healthier school environments. In the first year of the project, the WI CCC Program worked with five school districts around the state to assess their school environment and make one policy change over the course of the school year. During the second year of the project, the WI CCC Program partnered with the Cooperative Educational Service Agency (CESA) 3 to pilot a regional model with five additional districts in Southwest Wisconsin.
All school districts in Wisconsin were invited to a healthier schools workshop in 2013 and 2014 in order to learn more about the importance of a healthy school environment and not only it's impact on healthy but also academic achievement, available resources and to network with their peers across the state. Plans are underway for a similar workshop in Fall of 2015.
