Meet the Grantee: Milwaukee Consortium for Hmong Health

Milwaukee Consortium for Hmong Health: "Healthy Hmong Families: Advancing Equity Through Lay Health Education"

Grantee: The Milwaukee Consortium for Hmong Health, a 2015 CCC Implementation grantee, strives to create positive changes regarding cancer health and wellness in the Milwaukee Hmong Community.

Project: The project, “Healthy Hmong Families: Advancing Equity Through Lay Health Education,” worked to minimize barriers to cancer screenings through the production of culturally appropriate messages, case management services, and patient navigation opportunities.

Goal: This project primarily focused on increasing the number of men and women in the Hmong Community who were informed about and screened for, breast, cervical, and liver cancers.

Results: Several outreach events were held, including a Spring Health Conference at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee which provided education sessions and on-site clinical exams for female breast cancer, Hepatitis B and blood pressure checks to nearly 200 participants.

What’s Next: The Milwaukee Consortium for Hmong Health was funded for a second phase of “Healthy Hmong Families: Advancing Equity Through Lay Health Education” through December 2017.
