DESCRIPTION:The next Freshstart smoking cessation class series will be held January 2022.\nFreshstart is a FREE 4 week Zoom Course sponsored by the American Cancer Society and offered by Advocate Aurora Health – Aurora Cancer Care. \nThe course is at no cost to participants and open to anyone who is interested in quitting smoking—including our community members. This course will be conducted virtually and in the English language. \nAre You Ready to Quit Smoking? \nJoin Advocate Aurora Health’s 4 Week (weekly for 4 weeks) Smoking Cessation Program\, Freshstart\, sponsored by the American Cancer Society. The primary goal of Freshstart is to help participants plan a successful quit attempt by teaching effective ways to overcome nicotine dependence. \nFreshstart is designed to help any tobacco user\, including those who may be unsure about wanting to quit\, and specifically addresses ambivalence about quitting. NOELLE LOCONTE:\n \nDr. Noelle LoConte is a faculty member in the Division of Hematology\, Medical Oncology and Palliative Care in the Department of Medicine. She leads the UW Carbone Cancer Center’s Outreach\, Cancer Control and Population Sciences division and its Data and Safety Monitoring Committee. She formerly served on the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Prevention and Annual Meeting Scientific Program Committees. \nHer many regional and national committee memberships include the Wisconsin Cancer Council Steering Committee; the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group Gastrointestinal Cancer Core Committee; the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Treatment Guidelines Committee for Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma; the Big 10 Cancer Research Consortium Gastrointestinal Cancer Committee; and the ASCO Primary Care Provider Engagement Work Group\, CancerLinq Discovery Research and Publications Committee\, and Alcohol Policy Workgroup (the latter of which she chairs). She is also a reviewer for over a dozen medical journals\, and has received a John A. Hartford Foundation/American Society of Clinical Oncology Foundation Young Investigator Award and a Wisconsin Cancer Council Certificate of Appreciation Award.
