DESCRIPTION:LIVE Session Wednesday\, November 2\, 2022 at 11:30 AM CT \nAs noted in a recent Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) article\, an important question asked\, “Is lung cancer screening reaching individuals who can gain the most from it?” And the most recent report revealed that inadequate access to healthcare services due to geographic\, financial\, or logistical challenges continues to remain a commonly cited barrier to cancer screening experienced by populations with low socioeconomic status (SES) characteristics. This includes low-income populations\, populations without a usual source of healthcare services\, uninsured\, underinsured\, and populations residing in rural or remote areas (including medically underserved areas)\, as well as members of some racial/ethnic minority populations are those who experience significant disparities in cancer screening and follow-up care. \nTopics in this session include: Lung cancer screening disparities\, health system evidence-based interventions (EBIs)\, cancer survivorship as well as Medicaid coverage resources-lung cancer screening.

DESCRIPTION:James Wake Memorial Lecture 2022 | Grief and Grieving Through a Multi-Disciplinary Lens\n\n\nDescription \nPresented by the Marquette University College of Nursing Institute for Palliative and End of Life Care. \nJoin us as we hear from Dr. Mary-Frances O’Connor on her lecture\, “Grief and Grieving Through a Multi-Disciplinary Lens.” O’Connor is an associate professor of psychology at the University of Arizona\, where she directs the Grief\, Loss and Social Stress (GLASS) Laboratory\, and is the author of the recently published book\, The Grieving Brain. \nIn her presentation\, Dr. O’Connor will share how she is using an integrative view of psychology\, neuroscience\, and immunology to curate findings that are profoundly impacting the multi-disciplinary field of bereavement research and shaping its development. Her talk will culminate in addressing personal and clinical considerations that participants can integrate into their own circumstances and roles. \nThe event is in memory of James Wake\, late husband of former Marquette Provost Dr. Madeline Wake. DESCRIPTION:CONFERENCE FORMAT\nThis conference is being held in-person at Monona Terrace\, One John Nolen Drive\, Madison\, Wisconsin. \nCONFERENCE DESCRIPTION\nCancer costs are rising for health care systems. Patients are dealing with the emotional cost of a cancer diagnosis and\, for some\, the financial toxicity of not being able to afford treatment. \nJoin us for thought-provoking conversations as we examine the “cost of cancer” at our annual fall cancer conference. Informative presentations and interactive discussions await you! \nOur annual fall cancer conference is designed for health care professionals\, as well as patients and loved ones. \nINTENDED AUDIENCE\nThis activity is designed for individuals who are involved in cancer treatment and education of cancer patients and their families: oncology physicians\, primary care physicians\, oncology nurses\, oncology nurse practitioners\, clinical research associates\, health educators\, social workers\, psychologists\, chaplains\, and other interested health care professionals involved in cancer care. Patients\, caregivers and community members are also encouraged to attend. \nELEMENTS OF COMPETENCE\nThis continuing education activity has been designed to change learner competence and focuses on the American Board of Medical Specialties areas of patient care and procedural skills\, interpersonal and communication skills\, professionalism\, and the interprofessional competency of values/ethics for interprofessional practice. \nGLOBAL LEARNING OBJECTIVES\nAs a result of participation in this educational activity\, members of the healthcare team will be able to: \n\nIdentify how and why the cost of cancer care has increased\nOutline strategies to increase awareness of the emotional toll of cancer amongst health care professionals and strategies to assist patients with this issue\nRecognize how funds are allocated for cancer research\nDiscuss the escalating price of cancer therapies\nDiscuss research in global communities as related to the cost of cancer care\n\nCONFERENCE FEES\, CANCELLATION POLICY\n$175 Physicians \n$125 Nurses\, Physician Assistants\, Clinical Research Associates\, Social Workers\, Other Health Care Professionals \n$40 UW Staff\, Residents\, Fellows\, Students \n$40 Cancer Patients\, Survivors\, Caregivers and Family Members \nThe conference fee includes the cost of tuition\, materials\, breakfast\, lunch\, one break\, and a nonrefundable processing fee of $25. \nRequests for cancellation must be submitted in writing to help@icep.wisc.edu. All cancellations must be received on or before November 4\, 2022\, in order to receive a refund minus the $25 nonrefundable processing fee. No refunds will be made for cancellations received after November 4\, 2022 (this also applies to NO SHOWS).
