SUMMARY:Lung Cancer Disparities: Addressing Gaps and Opportunities to Improve Health Outcomes and Health Equity Among Low-Income Populations and Other Populations with Low Socioeconomic Status (SES) Characteristics (Part 1)
DESCRIPTION:As noted in a recent Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) article\, an important question asked\, “Is lung cancer screening reaching individuals who can gain the most from it?” And the most recent report revealed that inadequate access to healthcare services due to geographic\, financial\, or logistical challenges continues to remain a commonly cited barrier to cancer screening experienced by populations with low socioeconomic status (SES) characteristics. This includes low-income populations\, populations without a usual source of healthcare services\, uninsured\, underinsured\, and populations residing in rural or remote areas (including medically underserved areas)\, as well as members of some racial/ethnic minority populations are those who experience significant disparities in cancer screening and follow-up care. \nTopics in the session include: lung cancer disparities\, health system evidence-based interventions to improve tobacco cessation\, and lung cancer screening rates among low-income patients.

SUMMARY:Health Systems Change to Address Tobacco Use in LGBT+ Communities: A Conversation with the LGBT Cancer Network Webcast
DESCRIPTION:Join the American Lung Association on Tuesday\, September 27\, 2022\, at 2:00 PM ET in a conversation with the National LGBT Cancer Network to address tobacco use in the LGBTQ+ community. Available data show that LGBT+ populations use tobacco products\, particularly menthol cigarettes\, at higher rates than their cisgender and heterosexual counterparts. Even so\, our understanding of tobacco-related disparities are limited by the lack of representative data at local\, state and national levels\, particularly for transgender\, gender diverse\, and minority populations. \nThis webcast will explore the meaningful changes health systems can make to better address and support this specific population in ending their tobacco use through enhanced sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) data collection and other systems change activities. \nRegister HERE to participate live or view the recorded webcast on-demand. For questions regarding the resources discussed within the webcast\, you can email our team at CessationTA@Lung.org.
