There is not a hybrid option for this event\, and the conference will not be recorded for use after the program. \nConference Description\nFood as medicine\, also known as “food is medicine\,” sits at the crossroads of nutrition and healthcare. \nThe “food as medicine” approach to health management challenges the construct of conventional medicine\, which relies primarily on technological medical advancements to manage health and disease with pharmaceutical drugs. \nInformative presentations and interactive discussions await you! Our annual Fall Cancer Conference is designed for health care professionals\, as well as patients and loved ones. \nIntended Audience\nThis activity is designed for individuals who are involved in cancer treatment and education of cancer patients and their families: oncology physicians\, primary care physicians\, oncology nurses\, oncology nurse practitioners\, clinical research associates\, health educators\, social workers\, psychologists\, dietitians\, chaplains\, and other interested health care professionals involved in cancer care. Patients\, caregivers and community members are also encouraged to attend. \nElements of Competence\nThis continuing education activity has been designed to change learner competence and focuses on the American Board of Medical Specialties areas of patient care and procedural skills\, interpersonal and communication skills\, professionalism\, and the interprofessional competency of values/ethics for interprofessional practice. \nGlobal Learning Objectives\nAs a result of participation in this educational activity\, members of the healthcare team will be able to: \n\nDescribe the prevalence of food insecurity\, its impact on patients with cancer\, and best practices to screen for food insecurity in the cancer care setting\nIdentify common nutrition-related treatment side effects and recommended dietary modifications\nRelate the stress/stigma of a plus-size person going to the doctor\nDiscuss the prevalence of malnutrition among oncology patients and the impact on patient care\nDescribe the data supporting alcohol as a cancer-causing agent\nList the benefits of tube feeding in cancer patients with poor nutrition status\nIdentify the most common nutrition myths grabbing cancer patients’ attention\nFormulate strategies to help promote healthy lifestyle changes among patients with cancer\nIllustrate the importance of local\, culturally relevant foods as a gateway to healthier living\nExamine the ways that trauma can impact not only our mental health\, but also contribute to inflammation in the body\nExplore the “Wisconsin EATS Healthy” vision and several food is medicine initiatives that improve nutrition security through increased access to fruits and vegetables\n\nConference Fees\, Cancellation Policy\n$175 Physicians \n$125 Nurses\, Physician Assistants\, Clinical Research Associates\, Social Workers\, Dietitians\, Other Health Care Professionals \n$40 UW Staff\, Residents\, Fellows\, Students \n$40 Cancer Patients\, Survivors\, Caregivers and Family Members \nThe conference fee includes the cost of tuition\, materials\, breakfast\, lunch\, one break\, and a nonrefundable processing fee of $25. \nRequests for cancellation must be submitted in writing to help@icep.wisc.edu. All cancellations must be received on or before October 6\, 2023\, in order to receive a refund minus the $25 nonrefundable processing fee. DESCRIPTION:Please join the National Lung Cancer Roundtable (NLCRT)\, established by the American Cancer Society\, and the American College of Radiology (ACR)\, and the Radiology Healthy Equity Coalition (RHEC)\, and the Veterans Health Association\,  in promoting the Second Annual  National Lung Cancer Screening Day on Saturday\, November 11\, 2023. To participate\, we are asking screening centers nationwide to open their doors on Saturday\, November 11\, 2023\, and allow individuals to be screened without needing to take a day off work\, thereby increasing the accessibility of lung cancer screening overall. By promoting this day to your partners\, you will be extending screening opportunities to those who may be unaware of this lifesaving\, preventive screening option. You will also be increasing awareness of lung cancer screening within your community. DESCRIPTION:As more and more young people are being diagnosed with and surviving cancer\, mental-health has become a top\, unmet need for Adolescent Young Adult (AYA) Survivors. In-Between explores bringing mind-body medicine and therapy together to connect young survivors with the whole-person care they need. \n  \nOur first event is on Saturday\, November 18th from 10 AM – 12 PM at the Lubar Entrepreneurship Center at UW Milwaukee. This is a free event for AYA Survivors (currently aged 18 – 40) that includes a healthy brunch\, discussion\, peer support and guided mindfulness practice.
