During these sessions\, participants will learn the most common types of cancer\, symptoms\, stages\, common medical words\, how to prepare yourself and your family or loved ones when receiving a cancer diagnosis and what to ask to a doctor. Additionally\, you will learn how to identify cancer risk factors and ways to help prevent cancer. We are excited to bring this event back since its last appearance in Portland\, OR in 2005. \nThis conference will address the traditional uses of tobacco and commercial tobacco impact in American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) communities across the United States. A disparate proportion of AI/AN communities use commercial tobacco compared to other racial/ethnic groups in the United States. High prevalences of commercial tobacco use among AI/AN Tribes are directly reflected in the disproportionate rates of chronic diseases in AI/AN populations. There is an urgent need to bring Tribes together at a national level to educate one another on successes and setbacks in commercial tobacco prevention and control among AI/ANs. \nThe conference will emphasize AI/AN persons returning to a healthy relationship with tobacco\, the importance of creating health equity\, and provide an opportunity for networking and collaboration. \nWe expect an audience composed of AI/AN community leaders\, community members\, healthcare providers serving these communities\, researchers in tobacco and healthcare\, students interested in public health and tobacco prevention/cessation. You belong here. DESCRIPTION:As we approach the 17th year since the Institute of Medicine released their landmark report\, “From Cancer Patient to Cancer Survivor: Lost in Transition”\, oncology programs continue to encounter challenges in implementing survivorship care in a way which provides meaning and long-term value to cancer survivors and their families. \nUpdates to the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer (CoC) survivorship standard in 2020 attempt to address this challenge by encouraging cancer programs to move beyond providing a survivorship care plan document to patients and into engaged action that represents the intended outcome of quality survivorship care delivery that includes prevention and surveillance of treated or potential cancers\, surveillance and management of physical and psychosocial effects and promotion of health. \nDr. Crystal Labbato will present the current model for survivorship care delivery utilized within the Baptist Health Louisville community cancer center\, and how they were able to tailor services to best meet the needs of cancer survivors in their community. \nLearn more about NCCS’s Survivorship Champions program for clinicians and researchers: https://canceradvocacy.org/champions
