In 2015, national data shows an estimated 13,000 women were diagnosed with invasive cervical cancer and about 4,000 will die from the disease. However, cervical cancer is highly preventable and treatable thanks to improved screening and HPV vaccination. Cervical Cancer Awareness Month is an opportunity to raise awareness about how women can protect themselves from HPV and cervical cancer.
The WI CCC Program is working with its partners to implement the WI CCC Plan’s Priority 4, “Increase HPV vaccine completion.” In order to plan appropriate interventions an environmental scan of HPV related activities was conducted in 2015. The scan included a review of Wisconsin HPV vaccination data, a stakeholder survey, an examination of HPV related research at UW, and an evaluation of a provider education quality improvement project. The findings of the environmental scan will be presented in a webinar on February 9th from 3 – 4 PM as part of the 2016 WI CCC Plan Priority Webinar Series. The WI CCC Program is also partnering to present two HPV Summits to be held in 2016 – May 11th in Wausau and May 12th in Waukesha. Please mark your calendars accordingly.
